This painting is a perfect example of using a watercolour underpaiting to capture a diffferent type of light in a painting. I painted these skies en plein air while away this summer, but added the blanket of snow as a contrast once back in my encaustic studio. There is a hint of the yellow from the sky that plays over the surface of the white snow.
