Reflections from my Studio

Studio time is precious time. We as artists all have lives outside of our studios, so carving out time to create is important — and sacred. Like many artists, I wear many hats: businesswoman, mother, wife, aunt, dog owner, daughter-in-law, friend, cousin. Each of these roles carries its own responsibilities and demands.

So when I have the chance to be alone in my studio, it becomes something rare and deeply valuable. The studio is where the noise quiets. Where ideas can breathe. Where I can reconnect with myself through the act of making.

There is something almost meditative about entering that space alone — the familiar smells of wax, paint; the unfinished works waiting patiently; the silence filled only with the sounds of creating. In those moments, time feels different.

I look at my time in the studio as a gift — but an essential one. It is not selfish time. It is necessary time. It replenishes something vital and allows me to return to all the other roles I carry with greater clarity, energy, and purpose.

As artists, we often spend so much of ourselves giving to others, managing businesses, caring for family, supporting friends, and meeting endless responsibilities. But inside the studio, even briefly, we are reminded of who we are beneath all those roles.

Tell me... how do you make sure you protect your studio time? I'd love to know.
